A Film Industry Tribute to Ray Chan

On Tuesday 23rd April, our dear colleague and friend Ray Chan sadly passed away having suffered a stroke.

One of the most energetic and passionate characters to grace the film industry; so many of us have been fortunate enough to experience Ray's dedication, creativity and endless enthusiasm over the last three decades.

It doesn't seem conceivable that someone so dynamic can be taken so soon, and so suddenly.

The movie world has truly lost one of it's main characters.

This page has been set up for us all to pay tribute to Ray - and his family has proposed the Stroke Association in the hope that more lives can be saved by greater awareness.  Please give as much or as little as as you can afford, and feel free to leave a message of condolence.

There will be a private burial service for close family, but a London memorial service is in the process of being arranged, and further details will be shared on this page in due course.

A story from Avengers 2. By default I somehow became the location art director, and one day was dispatched by Ray to a far flung London location near the Thames to survey. I wrapped up ever so close to that tipping point in the mid afternoon when the time it would take to get back to Longcross Studios would be so near the end of the work day I opted to head home; no one would be none the wiser. Five minutes later I’m on the road in the busy traffic, window down, blasting out a tune, fast approaching a roundabout. The sun broke the clouds dazzling me, at that exact moment a massive bee flew through the window and my cellphone rang. I glanced down, the roundabout fast approaching, the name Ray Chan was emblazoned on the screen, the bee buzzed close to my face, I was a car’s length from the roundabout, I had to make a snap decision. You don’t leave a Ray call unanswered. I swiped the volume down, gripped the wheel hard in my right hand, snatched up the phone in my left, spun the wheel as I entered the roundabout, pressed answer, and in the calmest voice I could muster, the bee buzzing ever closer, said, “Hi Ray!” “Hey Joolz, how’s the survey going?” I’d missed my exit and continued round the roundabout. “Went well, I’m about wrapped up!” “Good, good, I’d call it a day mate, go home from there.” “Cheers, thanks Ray, see you tomorrow!” End of call, the bee flew out the window, I made my exit. Ray gained the respect of everyone who worked alongside him. He walked the walk. Missing you man…xXx

Ray, I miss you mate. You did some very nice things for me. It probably didn’t mean much to you, but it meant the world to me. Look at all these people your light shined on. Thank you for being you.
